Peyton Heatherly: Illinois' #1 Setter Is Built for the Big Moment
September 17, 2026
Peyton Heatherly, Illinois' top setter in the class of 2027, is making her mark at Mother McAuley and heading to Coastal Carolina. Watch her story.
Peyton Heatherly is the number one setter in the state of Illinois from the class of 2027, and her path to the top has been shaped by a lifetime immersed in the sport. Growing up in a family where her mother, grandmother, aunts, and sisters all played or coached volleyball at a high level, Peyton developed a deep understanding of the game long before she ever stepped onto a high school court.
Now a standout at Mother McAuley High School in Chicago, Peyton plays for one of the most storied volleyball programs in the country. McAuley has captured 17 state championships and consistently attracts elite talent from across the nation. As a freshman, Peyton earned the starting setter role and helped lead the team to a state title, playing alongside current University of Michigan star Ellie White.
As a setter — often described as the quarterback of a volleyball team — Peyton has grown into a composed, communicative leader who elevates the players around her. She credits her mental growth, strong relationships with her hitters, and the high-level environment at McAuley for shaping her into the player she is today.
Peyton has committed to continue her volleyball career at Coastal Carolina University, where she will join the Chanticleers after her final season at McAuley. Before heading to Myrtle Beach, she has one goal left: winning another state championship and closing out her high school career the same way it began — as a champion.
She's In The Game features Peyton Heatherly's story as part of Season 2, highlighting rising female athletes and the journeys that define them both on and off the court.
