Lindsey Heaps Returns Home: NWSL Star Joins Denver Summit FC

U.S. soccer star and national team captain Lindsey Heaps has returned to her roots, signing with Denver Summit FC in the NWSL after four seasons playing professional soccer in France. In this week's Trailblazer segment on She's In The Game, Lindsey reflects on growing up in Golden, Colorado, where her mother Linda served as her first soccer coach for six or seven years — a detail Lindsey recalls with warmth and humor. Colorado's competitive youth soccer environment, fueled by fierce club rivalries and the presence of fellow USA stars like Mallory Swanson and Sophia Smith, helped shape Lindsey into the elite player she is today. Now, after winning a World Cup and an Olympic gold medal, Heaps is embracing the surreal experience of commuting to work in her home state for the first time in her career. She also reflects on how dramatically the NWSL has grown since she last played in the league with Portland in 2021, noting the evolution of the game and the rising quality of play. With a championship pedigree and deep Colorado ties, Lindsey Heaps is ready to bring her talent — and her drive — back home to Denver.
